Gossip Girl: There’s a Sex Club Behind Your White Castle too?!

All of this political talk and the economy disintegrating beneath us has been all over the internet. (Meaning our blog, and the internet as a whole. Convenient.) So I thought I would not only pick something lighter to write about, but pick something with absolutely no basis on reality. No, not The Hills! Gossip Girl. And I’ll spare you the “OHMYGAWD, I’m so embarrassed I watch this” bullshit. Because, well, I am. And it makes me kind of sad to dwell on what I’m talking about here.

SO. Did anyone else see this episode. So much happened(?). Where to begin?

Well, we immediately find out it’s Fashion Week. As Fordham students, I know New York is your campus, guys. So I KNOW you can totally relate to how hectic Fashion Week is for all of us. And it’s just as hectic for high school kids on the Upper East Side.

Highlights after the jump. (more…)

The Internet Is the Most Asinine Series of Tubes in the World

If you’ve ever thought that the proliferation of media to the masses enabled by the Internet was a good thing, this video will single handedly prove you wrong.

The clip is called “Politically Retarded” and is hosted by a mildly incomprehensible Asian man who goes by the Internet moniker of “Retarded Mango.” The bit manages to rip off an old Conan O’Brien bit while at the same insulting everything and everyone it touches, including

Welcome to the Information Super-Highway to Hell.

Bill O’Reilly Gets Worked Up

Anyone who saw the footage of FOX News pundit Bill O’Reilly’s total melt-down on YouTube this summer understands that Mr. O’Reilly has a bad habit of getting a little, well, worked up.

As this clip, taken from his O’Reilly Factor Radio Show, proves, nothing get’s ole potato head Bill more upset than people fucking around with your money. So here it is, Bill O’Reilly telling George Bush, and “right wing radio talk show host liars,” and, oddly, Congressman Barney Frank to fuck off. Enjoy:

The Bailout Bill Has Failed!

Will CBA degrees be as "Fireproof" as heterosexual marriage?

Will CBA degrees be as "Fireproof" as heterosexual marriage?

The Internet is telling me that the bailout has failed to pass through the House of Representatives. I have no idea what that means economically, but the stock markets have fallen six hundred points today. Is there a C.B.A. bro (or brolette) in the house!? Are business degrees “Fireproof?” Will the job market still want Communications majors with middling grades and only an editorial position at the paper to show for it?

Only time will tell.

Masters of the Universe Face their Apocalypse…Tomorrow
September 29, 2008, 1:42 pm

Everyone’s favorite man-in-white and author of Bonfire of the Vanities, Tom Wolfe, wrote an op-ed piece for the The New York Times over the weekend telling readers that the men he deemed “Masters of the Universe,” that is, the ”ambitious young men…who, starting with the 1980s, began racking up millions…in performance bonuses at investment banks,” will face their own apocalypse tomorrow, September 30.

Why? These men left Wall Street for Greenwich Connecticut, Wolfe says, “abandoning investment banking for hedge funds six years ago.” But, Wolfe claims, while they and their hedge funds are still kickin’, unlike the investment banks they once worked for, these Masters of the Universe aren’t getting off scott free.

Tomorrow, September 30, marks the first of several dates that are designated times when people can withdraw their investments from hedge funds. And Wolfe explains, “Even with these strict caps on withdrawals, some funds may end up nothing but shells.” Boo hoo.

This Week at Fordham

It’s Sunday night, and we here at the paper are nursing another banger of a weekend, drearily looking into another five day abyss of work and school. That’s not to say though that this upcoming week won’t be punctuated by fun and games though, the first Senior Night is this Thursday, and so is the VP debate. We’re still trying to figure out which will be a bigger shit-show.

Welcome to Thursday night SmackDown!

Welcome to Thursday night SmackDown!

Outside of those highlights: Monday morning, Washington will probably make some big-shit announcement regarding a bailout of some-kind, a bail-out that will probably have consequences that I will fail to understand forever.

In less depressing areas, the movie Blindness will be released on Friday, a film based on the awesome Jose Saramago novel of the same name and directed by the dude who is responsible for the jaw dropping awesomeness that was the film City of God, Fernando Meirelle. In more depressing areas, it will most likely out-grossed by the George Lopez inflected, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and the sub-Juno, indie rock co-opt flick Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist.

That’s pretty much it for the week…

At least there’s still Tuesday night.

Paul Newman is dead. The great man in the sky has stolen from us, once again, a refined and amazing thespian. It is heartbreaking to hear the news that at the age of 83 after a quick bout with lung-cancer Paul Newman finally succumbed to his illness and past away on September the 26th, 2008, while countless amounts of talentless actors and actresses are allowed (and encouraged) to dominate Hollywood. Even in his old age Newman was a fucking horse, a true-grit bad ass who could have easily stomped on the larynx of any opponent. He gave us The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and, perhaps most important, an amazing line of organic and delicious grocery products.

Mr. Newman, we may have never met, but you will be missed. Here’s to you, guy.

Okay, so the debates were kind of boring, so we here at the paper drowned ourselves in Carlo Rossi and King Cobra. Needless to say, we’ve been nursing presidential hang overs all day. That is until I discovered the power of a good Google image search… and puppies.

This is not a Photo Shop!

Despite the fact that according to McCain the whole thing is over already, the BIG DEBATE is on tonight. Let’s all get housed and root for our favorite team…er… I mean potential next leader of the free world.
Until the real deal tonight, enjoy this inside look on the old Maverick’s thought process:

191 & Bathgate: the MOVIE!

Rich kids from Westchester moving on to Bathgate? What an unrealistic movie!

Rich kids from Westchester moving on to Bathgate? What an unrealistic movie!

While walking home from class today, a friend of mine asked if I had heard of the movie Cross Bronx. Well, no. I hadn’t. So my friend pointed out one of those apartments between 191 and Fordham Road on Bathgate—the ones right outside the Finlay Gate—and said the movie was about 4 kids from Westchester who move into that apartment. Wait. What? YES. So those kids move into the apartment with the hopes of hooking up with the nearby college babes (that’s us, Fordham girls!), and then chronicles their adventures in the Bronx.
